The Office of the Auditor-General was established in 1963 headed by a Director of audit, Mr. Bragg and original name was Basutoland audit office which was changed to the present name in 1970 when the title of Director of Audit changed to Auditor-General Mr. Harrison. Mr. Bragg served until 1970 when Mr. Harrison took over until 1972. Mr. Tarr took over from 1973-1985

CURRENT AUDITOR-GENERAL
Ms. Mathabo Gail Makenete was sworn in as the Auditor-General of the Kingdom of Lesotho, on 1st May 2023.

FORMER ACTING AUDITOR-GENERAL
Mrs. Mafani Masoabi. Mrs. Masoabi acted was sworn in this role following the retirement of Mrs. Besetsa.

FORMER AUDITOR GENERAL
Mrs. Lucy Liphafa, she was Auditor-General for 16 years until she retired in 2020.

FORMER AUDITOR-GENERAL
Mr. Matsobane Putsoa, he was Auditor-General until 1997.

FORMER ACTING AUDITOR-GENERAL
Ms. Monica Besetsa steered the ship as Acting Auditor-General when Mrs. Liphafa retired.

1997
FORMER AUDITOR-GENERAL
Mr. Mahlelebe David Lepitikoe was Acting Auditor-General from 1994 – 1995. He was sworn in as Auditor-General in 1997 and held that post until 2002.

1985
FORMER AUDITOR-GENERAL
Mr. Selae P. Molapo, was sworn in as Auditor-General in 1985 and held that position until 1994.
